I volunteered as a mental health activity support worker in Bali with SLV.Global this summer. Four weeks of being immersed in a beautiful culture, travelling to stunning places on the weekends, and promoting positive mental health in the local community. Not only have I completed a further 2 placements with SLV.Global in Sri Lanka (2018 as a peer mentor - 3 months) and in Bali (2019 as a Vol. Coordinator - 3 months), but I have also acted as an ambassador for my university, gaining some extra money whilst promoting a cause I strongly align with. SLV Global provided me with a unique opportunity to experience mental health in a different cultural context, and gave me the confidence to run a session for various groups of individuals. Whether it be teaching english, special needs or working with those with mental health conditions it all was a fantastic learning curve.

In September 2017 I will be embarking on a Mental Health Placement in Bali with SLV. This organisation works to help those suffering from mental health problems in Bali and Sri Lanka. At the same time, it allows people like me to gain invaluable experience and develop skills in the clinical field of psychology.

SLV.Global recruits volunteers to work at mental health, special needs and social work projects including, but not limited to, working with service users in psychiatric facilities, volunteering at centres for people with special needs, youth English teaching, and SLV Global have set up mental health placements in both Sri Lanka and Bali in order to provide psychological support to those in need.
